Published on 17 September, the House of Lords Liaison Committee’s follow-up report revisits their 2020 inquiry into the social and economic effects of the gambling industry, with a focus on advertising, marketing and sponsorship. 

The committee concluded that current evidence justified taking “meaningful steps” against the sector, including a comprehensive advertising ban, to reduce exposure especially among children and vulnerable groups, and to curb problem gambling.

The report underscored gambling harm as a significant public health concern. It cited the Gambling Commission’s Gambling Survey for Great Britain (GSGB), which has indicated that between one and 1.5 million adults in Great Britain now score high enough on the Problem Gambling Severity Index (PGSI) rangeto indicate problem gambling.

The pattern reflects a wider supplier tactic: building recurring mechanical families so a proven feature can be redeployed across multiple titles. That approach lowers development risk and reduces the familiarity barrier for players. For operators, it typically means a steady supply of new content that behaves in predictable, sellable ways.

Blueprint has been explicit about the commercial thinking. According to Jennyfer Escobar, Stake’s Peru country manager, Peru is one of the most competitive in Latin America. “In the early stages, competition was largely driven by marketing investment, including advertising, sponsorships etc,” Escobar tells iGB. “Today, product quality, platform performance and the overall user experience are becoming much stronger differentiators.

“Players are more informed, have higher expectations and will switch brands if those expectations aren’t met.”
